The zaferuni chair is one of the most personal pieces I have created. The form is inspired by Iranian architecture and design, specifically Persian daybeds and traditional floor cushions. The name “zaferuni” means “saffron colored” in Farsi, the color of the cushions. It isn’t a gendered word by any means, but for me it reminds me of my aunties. It feels like being home, the casualness of sitting at the table after dinner, sipping tea, gossiping about the world.
